Mark Levand (he/him), Ph.D., CSE-S, MCHES – Center for Human Sexuality Studies

“I’ve been an educator for almost 20 years and a sexuality educator for ten of those years. I have learned that no matter how much you know about sexuality, there is always more to learn…”

Dr. Mark Levand is the Associate Professor of Practice, Director of Graduate Programs, and the Director of Field Experience for the Center for Human Sexuality Studies (CHSS) at Widener University. Inspired by the Center’s dedication to the advancement of knowledge around sexuality and professional development for those in the field, he finds great value in the way CHSS prepares educators and clinicians to operate around sexuality in ways sensitive to societal needs in our global milieu.

Diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice were key themes in his education early on in life and continue to guide his role as a life-long-learner of inclusion. These principles remain foundational in all of his research and how he engages students in the classroom.

At Widener University, Dr. Levand teaches foundational education methods courses for graduate human sexuality students, collaborates on student research initiatives, and enjoys educating adult learners about matters of sexual diversity.

His research interests include: sexual diversity, theoretical foundations in sexuality studies, consent, comprehensive sexuality education, Catholic sexual theology, and sexuality in organizational change.

Always keep asking questions, researching, and being connected to communities that help you learn and grow. This is important in life, generally, but in sexuality studies, the field grows and changes very quickly.

Foster a love for learning because learning will never end in this field! Which, again, can be said of any field. But because sexuality is so important to so many people, I would argue this is a quality of professional development that is crucial for being a socially responsible sexuality professional.”
