Commuters: Your Home Away From Home
Widener believes that every student, whether they live on-campus or commute, deserves an amazing college experience. Commuter students are welcome to all resources available to students living in the residence halls. Undergraduate students can join over 80 student organizations, play club sports, hold leadership positions in student government or fraternity and sorority life, participate in community service projects and FREE Pride Activities Council events, work out in the Pride Recreation Center, eat at the dining hall, visit academic support services or career services, and even study in the Wolfgram Memorial Library or computer labs!
Navigating Widener
Commuting students are encouraged to know as much about Widener and its surrounding areas as our resident students. Study—or at least look over—the campus map and familiarize yourself with the location of buildings, landmarks, streets, and parking lots. Also, for safety and convenience, learn more than one way to get to and from school.
Make sure that you check out the University Center, which has 3 commuter lounges to hang out between classes or to study with friends. On the first level, you can find many different lounge areas, Starbucks, the Pride Café, and MacMorland Food Court. On the lower level, you will find the Pride Den which houses study spaces and a game room, the Melrose Lounge, E-Sports Area, the Office of Student Engagement (OSE), and the Multicultural Student Lounge! The Melrose Lounge is our newly renovated Commuter Lounge! The space is designed to be your home away from home with comfortable lounge furniture, group work space and a white board, two microwaves, and a TV.
The Wolfgram Memorial Library and University Center offer free lockers that can be reserved on a semester basis to all students at each location.
Uno’s Pizzeria & Grill is located right off campus and welcomes all students! Moe’s Southwest Grill, Bento Sushi, Starbucks, Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon, The Drop, and Lion’s Den are located in the University Center and are available for commuters to enjoy. Freshen’s Fresh Food Kitchen is located in Founder’s Hall. If you plan on dining on campus, be sure to download the GrubHub app from Google Play or from the App store. Our GrubHub app allows you to pick a location and pick up time that works best for you and your food will be ready and waiting.
Join the CSA
Lastly, be sure to join the Commuter Student Association (CSA), which is a student-led organization that works in collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement to host programs designed specifically for commuter students. Notable programs include Commuter Bruncheons, hosted each semester as an opportunity to bring the community together, Coffee Stops, which provide free coffee and breakfast in the morning to students, and Commuter Student Appreciation Week, which offers a series of educational, fun, and service-orientated events for commuter students.
