Student Organization Advising Liability

Recognized student organizations at Widener University are self-governed. The actions, activities, and priorities of each organization are determined by its membership, guided by both their inter/national and local governing documents. The faculty or staff advisor’s primary role is to provide guidance and support to the organization, stepping in only when necessary to prevent violations of University policies, the Student Code of Conduct, or the Office of Student Engagement’s Character Clause.

In addition, advisors are responsible for supporting the health, safety, and well-being of their student members. While advisors are not held accountable for the mistakes of the organization, they play a critical role in helping students make informed and responsible decisions. As long as advisors provide sound guidance and advice, they are fully protected by the University in their role.
