The college experience
Why should my son or daughter join a fraternity or sorority?
Scholarship –
Our chapters continually achieve higher GPA’s than the all-men’s and all-women’s campus averages. National and local chapters support academics by offering study hours, recognition programs, and scholarships.
Brotherhood/Sisterhood –
Fraternity and Sorority Life offers the opportunity of experiencing true friendship. Chapters create a bond between their members that is impossible to describe. Having the security of someone to count on in good times, and in bad, only makes the experience that much better. Brothers and sisters experience relationships that continuously grow better with age. Most members claim to have found their best friends through their fraternity or sorority experience.
Leadership –
Fraternity and Sorority Life at Widener University has produced more campus leaders than any other organization on campus. Fraternities and sororities push every member to take a leadership role either in their chapter or in another organization on campus. Our chapters offer countless leadership training programs and leadership experience. Within each chapter, members have a chance to assume a wide variety of leadership roles, ranging from recruitment chair to treasurer, marketing and communications and events chair to President. Holding chapter offices teaches members how to coordinate events, effectively motivate their peers, and further develop their leadership skills.
Community Service –
Fraternity and Sorority Life teaches its members to help others before themselves. At Widener University, the Fraternity and Sorority Life community takes pride in the many projects that are completed throughout the year. These on-and-off campus activities provide the members a wonderful opportunity to give a portion of their time as a charitable contribution to the community.
Alumni Opportunities –
Alumni are an instrumental part of any successful Fraternity and Sorority Life community. Graduates have the opportunity to serve in alumni chapters which allow them to meet and network with other members of their respective chapters. Alumni also volunteer on the local, regional, and national levels of their chapter to help create a more beneficial college experience for their younger brothers or sisters. Being Greek does not end with graduation.
