General Membership Requirements

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Joining a fraternity or sorority is a mutual selection process where students and chapters take time to learn about each other. Each organization introduces potential members to its values, traditions, and community, while students are encouraged to explore, ask questions, and find the chapter that feels like home.

Membership timelines and processes vary by council, but all chapters share the same goal: building authentic, values-driven connections.

While chapters may have additional requirements, all potential new members must meet a few baseline eligibility standards before joining:

  • Enrolled at Widener University as a Full-Time student
  • Must have earned a minimum of 12 credit hours
    • CIO organizations can join their first semester of their first year
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for the current semester of which they are requesting to participate in the membership recruitment or intake process.
    • Some organizations may have a higher requirement
  • Must be in good standing with University Conduct
  • Must complete a Hazing Prevention and Alcohol Awareness online Canvas Course and receive at least a 90% on the corresponding quizzes after viewing the modules.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE STEPS TO JOIN EACH COUNCIL

STEP 1:

  • Attend Meet the Greeks or Meet the CPC at the beginning of the Fall or Spring semester. There will be a presentation from the Executive Board and an opportunity to meet and greet with each chapter at Meet the CPC.
  • Fill out the CPC Interest Form when it becomes available!

STEP 2:

(Fall Semester COB)

  • Chapters participating in Continuous Open Bidding (COB) will host events during the fall semester that will allow you to meet members and learn more about each sorority, including their core values, sisterhood, and philanthropies.
  • Not all chapters participate in COB during the Fall semester.

(Spring Semester Primary Recruitment)

  • Sign up for Recruitment via Campus Director  and pay the registration fee of $10.
  • Attend PNM Orientation. CPC will present an overview of the community, expectations, and days of recruitment. Orientation is also where Potential New Members (PNMs) meet their Recruitment Counselors. Recruitment Counselors serve as guides for the entirety of Primary Recruitment.
  • Potential New Members (PNMs) must attend the all Recruitment events they are invited to over the course of each day.

Please note:

  • Membership invitations/bids are not guaranteed, and not everyone receives a bid.
  • Receiving a bid is contingent upon multiple factors including, but not limited to, chapter grade requirements, the conversations taking place between PNMs and chapters, and whether the PNM matches a sorority's membership criteria.

Make sure to follow CPC and each chapter’s social media for updates on when and where events will be held, including important recruitment information.
