Canvas
What is Canvas?
Canvas is the online learning management system used across all three Widener campuses for publishing any online course material. Every course will have a Canvas course associated with it whether the course is online or face-to-face.
Access to Canvas
You can access Canvas through myWidener or the direct URL, widener.instructure.com. Since Widener uses single sign-on, if you are logged into myWidener, you will automatically be logged in to Canvas.
For students, your courses will typically appear in Canvas when the semester officially starts, although some instructors may allow access a few days ahead of the start of the semester.
Canvas Guides
If you want to learn more about using different parts of Canvas, there are a number of guides available on Canvas’s website that walk you through how to do anything you would need to as either a student or instructor.

You can also access Canvas Guides from within Canvas. In the bottom right-hand corner, you will see a question mark icon.
Hovering over this icon will display the word Support. If you click on this icon, a pop up box displays with clickable topics and sub-topics allowing you to navigate through Canvas guides. The bottom of the pop up box will show you options for accessing Canvas Support.
Canvas Support
Faculty and students both have access to 24/7 Canvas support. You can access Canvas Support through the blue question mark icon shown above or the Help option in the far left menu in Canvas.
You will have the option to either call or chat in real-time for questions or issues with Canvas.
Faculty & staff: If you are looking for Canvas trainings, course design consultations, or have questions about using Canvas for your course, you can reach out to the Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) team. You can access their Sharepoint page, e-mail [email protected], or fill out a TLT Service Request.
