Managing Your Password

Widener prioritizes your privacy and security online and to minimize your risk of cyber attacks, specific requirements are put in place for your Widener account password.

Password Self-Service

Manage your password using Widener’s Password Self Service. This platform allows you to reset your password, update security questions, and update communication preferences for password resets.

Password Requirements

You will be required to change your password every 6 months for increased account security. You will begin receiving e-mail alerts warning you that your password will expire approximately 14 days from its expiration.

Your Widener account password must include:

  • at least 12 characters
  • at least 1 uppercase letter
  • at least 1 lowercase letter
  • 1 number
  • 1 special character

There is a list of restricted words provided during the password reset process that are unable to be used in your password. You will also not be able to reuse previous passwords.

Password Tips

The following password tips apply not only to your Widener account but any account you might have. It is especially important to utilize these tips for any account that access financial, medical, or other sensitive information.

  • Do not use words or numbers from your username in your password
  • Do not repeat passwords for all of your accounts
  • If you need to store your passwords, do so securely
  • Change your password periodically and especially if there is any sign of risk
  • Enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible
