Asset Management Exchange
All full-time employees are provided with a Widener laptop and accessories upon hire and are then put onto a four-year rotation to ensure their devices are up to date. The process that occurs every four years of returning your laptop to exchange it for a newer, upgraded one is referred to as Asset Management Exchange.
Getting Your New Asset
When you are due to exchange your current laptop for a new, upgraded one, you will be notified via e-mail by the Client eXperience (CX) team. This e-mail will provide important information and instructions for exchanging your asset. If you think you are due for a new asset and have not received any communication, fill out a QuickTicket to request information about when you are due.
Chester Campus Employees (On-Site)
Your initial communication will include a link to book a 20-minute appointment with a CX team member. Chester campus appointments will take place in the Technology Support Center (TSC) located on the first floor of Wolfgram Library were the CX team member will assist with configuring your new laptop in order to ensure you it is fully operational, and you have everything you need installed.
Important Notes about Your Appointment
-
You must bring your current laptop and your Widener ID to your appointment to get your new laptop. You are required to turn in your current laptop so make sure you see the preparation information below.
-
Configuration includes Wi-Fi set up, applications deployment, printer connection, and more as needed. You are registering for a 20-minute window, but the CX team member will spend as much time as needed for your configuration.
-
At your appointment, you will receive your laptop, charger, and bag (if desired). All peripherals including keyboard, dock, and monitor will be exchanged at a later date where a CX team member will bring the technology to you.
Delaware, Harrisburg, and Remote Employees
Employees on either Delaware or Harrisburg’s campus, you will be instructed to schedule an appointment with a CX team member on your campus.
If you work remotely but are close to Widener’s Chester campus, your exchange will happen at the TSC. If you are located too far to come to campus, you will be asked to coordinate with the CX team to complete your exchange. Instructions will be included in your initial e-mail notification.
Prepare to Exchange Your Asset
To make your exchange as seamless as possible, you will want to back up your files, data, and bookmarks ahead of turning in your laptop.
Your Files
The easiest way to ensure your files transition from one laptop to another is to sync your files to your OneDrive. This process allows your computer’s files to mirror your OneDrive and edits to your files on your computer automatically sync to OneDrive.
You can also manually manage which of your files are on your OneDrive by opening your OneDrive in a web browser and uploading files or folders from your computer.
Note: Uploading files/folders to your OneDrive creates a new copy of the file and if you make changes to the original, it will not be captured in OneDrive (make all future changes in OneDrive to avoid losing them).

If you prefer, you can also transfer all of your files from your current laptop to a thumb drive and then transfer them to the new laptop once you have it.
