Setting Private or Random MAC Addressing

Your device’s MAC address is a unique identifier for each device on a network. Devices allow for random or private MAC addressing to increase privacy, although this can sometimes cause connection issues with certain networks. You can stop or resume using a private MAC address with any network. Use the following instructions for enabling or disabling the feature on your devices.

Windows 10/11

To change the random MAC address setting:

    1. Click the Network icon in the bottom right system tray
    2. Click Network & Internet Settings
    3. Switch the toggle for Use Random Hardware Addresses to either enable or disable private MAC addressing

Android

    1. Open the Settings app
    2. Select Network and Internet
    3. Select Internet and connect to wu-secure
    4. Tap the gear icon next to the network name
    5. Select Advanced
    6. Select Privacy
    7. Choose to use either a Random MAC Address or Device MAC Address

 

 

macOS

Note: This only applies to Mac computers running macOS Sequoia 15.0 operating system or later. Prior operating systems only generate randomized MAC addresses for Peer-to-Peer connections used for AirDrop and AirPlay.

      1. Open System Settings on your Mac
      2. Select Wi-Fi
      3. Find wu-secure in your Known Network list and click the three dots on the far right
      4. Select Network Settings
      5. For Private Wi-Fi address, select the Off optionPrivate WiFi Address menu item with dropdown options expanded, Off is indicated
      6. Confirm by clicking Turn Off in the pop up that displays

       

      iPhone

        1. Open the Settings app
        2. Tap the information icon (circle with i) next to a network
        3. Toggle the Private Wi-Fi Address setting on or off

       

       

       

       

       

       

      Apple Watch

        1. Open the Settings app
        2. If you are connected to a network, tap the network name. If you are not connected, swipe left on the network name and tap more (the three dots).
        3. Toggle the setting for Private Address on or off
