Microsoft OneDrive

OneDrive is a cloud based file storage platform included in your Microsoft account. It allows you to store files safely, access them across multiple devices, and easily share them with colleagues.

Please Note: Access to your OneDrive is available while you have an active Widener account. When you are no longer taking classes or working at Widener, you will lose access to your OneDrive. Learn more about account access and what happens with your files.

How much storage do I have and how do I check my storage usage?

Individuals get 1TB of storage in their OneDrive. A group or team gets up to 25TB.

To check how much storage you have used in your own account:

  1. Log into your OneDrive
  2. Select the gear in the upper right corner
  3. Navigate to OneDrive settings
  4. Select More Settings and choose Storage Metrics

What if I accidentally delete a file? Can it be recovered?

If you delete a file stored in OneDrive, it will remain in your recycle bin for 90 days. Within that time period, you can recover the file or folder.

Can I back up my entire computer onto OneDrive?

The easiest way to ensure your computer is backed up to OneDrive is to set up your computer to sync to OneDrive (see directions above for either Windows or Mac). This will ensure that as you edit or create files, they are automatically backed up.

What types of sharing permissions are there in OneDrive?

You can share files and folders with either view only permission or editing permission. Learn more about how to manage permissions for files and folders.

When is it best to use a Team for file sharing?

If are working with a group of colleagues and intend to have prolonged collaboration and file sharing needs, it is recommended to utilize a Team rather than sharing individual files or folders. This makes ongoing collaboration and organization easier. Learn more about collaborating through a Team.
