Frequently Asked Questions

Click each question to expand.

Will my phone number remain the same with Teams Voice?

Yes, upon transitioning to Teams Voice, your current Widener extension will be transferred to Teams Voice, ensuring continuity in communication.

Can I use Teams Voice for both internal and external calls?

Yes, Teams Voice supports both internal and external calling. You can make and receive calls from within Widener, as well as external contacts.

  • Internal Calling: With Teams Voice, dialing by extension is no longer needed as you will be able to call by name or e-mail address.
  • External Calls: Dialing external numbers will be done with 10-digit dialing. No additional digits are needed to dial outside Widener.

Where will my voicemails be?

Voicemail audio as well as text transcript will be in the Teams app, accessible through the Calls icon in the menu on the left-hand side.

Will I still have a desk phone?

As we make this transition, most desk phones will be phased out to streamline our communication system. This decision is based on the increased functionality and convenience Teams Voice offers, allowing you make and receive calls from multiple types of devices with a consistent experience. We want to assure you that we are committed to providing the necessary support and resources throughout this transition.

What will happen to department or shared phones?

Just like with personal work phone numbers, most department/shared phone lines will also transition to Teams Voice. We will work with each department to determine the need of these phone lines.

What will happen to lab and classroom phones?

We will replace phones in common locations with new hardwired phones in places like labs and other areas that require a phone for safety reasons. Other teaching environments that do not require phone lines have already been transitioning away from hardwired phones over the past two years during renovations and technology improvements.
