Audio
Settings
To access the settings menu, open the Zoom desktop app, click your profile picture (or icon), then click Settings.
The first options are to test your speaker and microphone. This is helpful to do before meetings, especially if you have switched between your computer speakers and an external headset.
Additional settings include minimizing background noises, and settings for how your audio functions upon entering a meeting. Not all settings are shown in the preview image.
You can access audio settings from within a meeting as well. In the bottom left corner of a Zoom meeting, click the arrow next to the mute option to access settings.
This menu allows you to change your microphone and speaker within a meeting, test your speaker and microphone, as well as access the full list of audio settings.
Troubleshooting Audio Issues
Most frequent audio issues are the result of:
- The incorrect speaker or microphone being selected – make sure the correct devices are selected in the audio settings
- The computer not recognizing or connected to an external headset – try to reconnect it
- Your computer volume is turned down – check your computer’s volume

Recommendations & Tips
For the best meeting experience:
- Test your audio and video prior to your meeting
- Remain muted unless you are speaking in the meeting
- Try to limit background noises, if you cannot, it is recommended to use a headset instead of your computer microphone
- Check your video preview to be aware of what is behind you or use a blurred/virtual background if needed
